Botvinnik Chess on top again, U12 Eastern Division Exploding in popularity

Worldwide U12 Group A – Wednesday, October 7, 2020

Botvinnik Chess is back in full strength: the third edition of Worldwide U12 won by the Russian team from Moscow. Again with small numbers, but all excellent players, they managed to outplay UEC Coronel Pringles (Argentina) and СШ 2 Кстово (Kstovo, Russia), second and third-placed teams in top competition Group A. The rest of the field was strong: Chess Chile Escolar, Сборная Шахты (Shakhty, Russia), Ajedrez Educativo Primarias Rio Negro (Argentina), Ученики И.Погорелова (I. Pogorelov’s Students, Ukraine), Brazilian Young Chess Team and Cairo Chess Academy (Egypt). Chess-Ecuador players did not come to the tournament. Third edition of U12 featured 7 divisions in three time zones and 753 players.

Africa Chess Future Club (a combined team of south African countries) and Schachfreunde Gern-Pasing (Germany) gave a very good performance in Group B and deserve a chance to try themselves in the best competition for the first time. Together with Club Ferlonichess (Argentina), they will be promoted in Group A.

Eastern Division in experiencing the biggest growth of players. Many new teams came, and very numerous ones. New winners are Chess Shoots Juniors (Bangalore, India), while Sharp Kids (Philippines) and Penang Chess Association (Penang, Malaysia) came tied for second place! Then follow Kuala Langat All Star – U12 (Malaysia), ACT Team (Alpha Chess Titans, Malaysia), ChessNut Academy (Solapur, India), Young Chess Masters (Selangor, Malaysia) and Этюд (Etud, Ekaterinburg, Russia).

No less of a fight was seen in Eastern B: Cuttack_Little_Chess_Champions (Cuttack, Odisha, India) won outright. Behind them were CMJ U12 Optimum Kids Team (Chess Master Journey, Malaysia) and Champions Chess Academy (Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India) – those three teams will be promoted to the top group for the next event. There were 16 teams in the Eastern division, and together they brought a fantastic number of 373 players!!

América Division was dominated by Chess-Ecuador, Veracruz México U-12 came second and Chess Chile Escolar third.
