U8: Botvinnik School victorious

Worldwide U8 Center A – November 25, 2020

Numbers continue to rise in U8: teams competing in higher categories recognized opportunities to engage their youngest players in a competition for players born in 2012 and younger. Alternating this category with U12 on Wednesdays proved to be very successful: 369 players this week, producing around 80% higher numbers compared to the previous Wednesday/Thursday schedule on the same week.

As expected, new team that appeared in previous U8 edition, Botvinnik Youth League (Moscow, Russia), gave an excellent performance. After last edition’s promotion into top Center A league, they managed to score a win in their first attempt… Impressive. Behind them, a thriller: СШ 2 Кстово (Sport School №2 Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod, Russia) and Derzhava Chess Club (Russia) ended tied up for the second place!

Strong team of Dragulf Chess Club (Norway) had an excellent play, taking fourth place, followed by Chess Profi (St. Petersburg, Russia) Arriba Peru and KSz “HETMAN” Katowice (Poland), but points difference between them was so small that a victory or two more could have changed the standings completely. Wonderful and intense tournament indeed… One of the best ever.

New team of ШК Ладья г. Азов (Ladya, Azov, Russia) won Center B group and will be promoted in group A for the next event, together with Schachfreunde Gern-Pasing II (Germany) and Сборная Шахты (Russia).
