KSz “HETMAN” Katowice

The Worldwide U8 Center A competition that was held on December 9, 2020 saw an excellent result by a very engaging and motivated young team from Poland: KSz “HETMAN” Katowice was the first team in quite a long time that managed to put a fight against Russian teams that dominate U8 category. First place went to Botvinnik Chess School (Moscow, Russia), and third to Sport School №2 Kstovo (Russia).

The team spirit that lives in the Hetman team is best represented by their captain’s FM Michał Tworuszka words:

“Katowice is a city located in the southern part of Poland, also known as
the “city of chess”. The city hosted the World University Chess Championship 2014, European Blitz and Rapid chess championship in 2017 and another big international tournament (for example Polish-Hungarian friendship chess tournament).

HETMAN Katowice, a chess club with tradition, won 9 times The Polish Team Championship. In the senior team of WASKO Hetman GKS Katowice played: GM Jan Krzysztof Duda, GM Radosław Wojtaszek, GM David Navara, GM Grzegorz Gajewski, GM Bartosz and Monika Soćko and other chess stars.
HETMAN Katowice won in 2018  The Polish Youth Team Championship. The President of HETMAN Katowice is Łukasz Turlej, who is also Vice President of FIDE. Young players team trainer is FM Michał Tworuszka.

In the pandemic time we created a club online on the lichess.org website. In
November we joined the WORLDWIDE CHESS league. It was a very good decision
:). On the 9th of  December we took second place in the group U8 Center
A
. In the U8 team played: Maksymilian Cieślicki, Stanisław Polański, Jakub Kryszak, Harjith Rajbharath, Wiktor Nowara, Paweł Brzezina, Bartosz Kułak, Zosia Polańska, Matylda Nowara.

In the older group played: Jeremi Wesołowski, Magda Oborska, Piotr Brzezina, Emilia Leks, Liliana Wesołowska, Alan Bogusz, Stefania Nowara and others. Paweł Brzezina, Jeremi Wesołowski and Patryk Cieślak are medalists of the Polish Youth Championship of 2020. The Worldwide Chess league is a good  chess promotion!”

December 16, 2020 update: after a series of promotions, Hetman U12 team managed to win Worldwide U12 Center B, meaning that they will appear in the top group Center A for the first time. We are sure they will make a great impact there but will have to wait until January 13, 2021, to show their talent in the toughest competition.
