Expanded Worldwide League starting in September

Worldwide Junior Chess organizers decided to expand the competition with a new category, namely the Under 10 (for children born in 2011 and later). The tournaments will be played on Wednesdays, alternating with U12. Teams can compete in U8, U10, U12, U14w, and U16 categories and are encouraged to participate in as many categories as they wish. Tournaments are played on Wednesdays and Saturdays enabling children to participate in more age categories and in the timing that is most appropriate for them.

Another important piece of news is the introduction of the League system for Center Division teams: during Autumn, from September through December, League will have 8 rounds in each age category, with a scoring system that will see the first fifteen teams in each round receiving points for the final rankings and compete for the overall win in the Worldwide League.

Scoring system: First place is 20 points, second 18, third 16, fourth 14, fifth 12, sixth 10, seventh 9, eighth 8, ninth 7, tenth 6, eleventh 5, twelfth 4, thirteenth 3, fourteenth 2, fifteenth 1. If the tournament has more groups, the first 10 places are taken from A group, and the rest from B group, until fifteen teams get points.

The eight-round scoring system will be applied to Center Division only, in U8, U10, and U12 categories, while East and West Divisions will continue to have regular tournaments like before, without counting team points. U14w and U16 categories continue to play on Saturdays as stand-alone events.
